Slocomb hasn't had much luck against Long recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Red Tops will host the Rebels at 4:30 p.m.
Slocomb couldn't beat Providence Christian on Thursday even though they stacked four runs on them in the sixth inning. The Red Tops fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 9-8. Red Tops fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Eagles since on Thursday.
Molly Mcgowan made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Rylee Knowles, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Long made easy work of Luverne on Monday and carried off a 13-4 win. The result was nothing new for the Rebels, who have now won 17 games by six runs or more so far this season.
Anna Claire Free was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted over her last seven contests.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ansley Watson, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Kaylie Foster was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
The victory made it two in a row for Long and bumps their season record up to 28-8. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Slocomb, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-16-1.
Slocomb couldn't quite get it done against Long in their previous matchup back in March as they fell 11-6. Will the Red Tops have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
