Inter-City Baptist and Southfield Christian are an even 3-3 against one another since April of 2015, but likely not for long. The Chargers will welcome the Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Inter-City Baptist gave up the first runs on Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. Everything went their way against Oakland Christian as they made off with a 19-8 victory. That's two games straight that the Chargers have won by exactly 11 runs.
The team relied heavily on Chloe Smith, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, six RBI, and two triples. Those triples marked the first that she has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Macy Harrison, who went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI.
Inter-City Baptist always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .641. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Southfield Christian made easy work of Redford Union on Friday and carried off a 17-2 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Eagles.
Chloe Schoon and Sarah Sherry were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Schoon tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Sherry pitched three innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. At bat, Schoon went 3-for-4 with six stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI, while Sherry went a perfect 3-for-3 with six stolen bases, three RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Taniya Hall was incredible, going 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Bella Thomas, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four stolen bases and two runs.
Inter-City Baptist's victory bumped their record up to 4-6. As for Southfield Christian, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Inter-City Baptist hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .340. However, it's not like Southfield Christian struggles in that department as they've averaged .445. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Inter-City Baptist skirted past Southfield Christian 8-6 in their previous meeting back in May of 2017. Will the Chargers repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
