In what's become a running theme this season, the May River Sharks gave their fans yet another huge win on Saturday. They put the hurt on St. Andrew with a sharp 48-27 win. Given May River's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 93rd in South Carolina, while St. Andrew's is ranked 448th in Georgia), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading May River to victory were Nia Taylor and Brooke Dalton. Taylor scored 15 points along with two steals, while Dalton scored 16 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Dalton has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Ashleigh Williams, who scored seven points along with two steals.
St. Andrew's loss came despite strong showings from Claire Fleming and Gray Holmes. Fleming scored nine points along with 11 rebounds and two steals, while Holmes scored four points.
St. Andrew's struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
The victory was the fifth in a row for May River, bringing their record for this year to 5-1. As for St. Andrew's, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-11.
May River will head out on the road to challenge Colleton County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Colleton County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 last Friday.
