Michael Manus was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Ardrey Kell saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Parker Vanstory, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base. Vanstory has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.
Meanwhile, South Mecklenburg got the win against Sun Valley on Friday by a conclusive 11-1. The Sabres might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by ten runs or more this season.
Reese Guertin made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). Guertin was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.
In other batting news, Chris Short was excellent, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Gabe Luke-Judy was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
South Mecklenburg always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .594. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.
South Mecklenburg has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. Ardrey Kell's loss dropped their record down to 8-5.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Ardrey Kell has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .447. However, it's not like South Mecklenburg struggles in that department as they've averaged .453. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
