Basketball Recap: Holly Hill Academy Takes a Loss

After flying high against Clarendon Hall last Thursday, Holly Hill Academy came back down to earth. The Holly Hill Academy Raiders lost 82-57 to the Calhoun Academy Cavaliers on Monday. The Raiders haven't had much luck with the Cavaliers recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.

When it comes to explaining why Holly Hill Academy lost, don't look at Jody Gillam. Despite the final result, he went 8 for 18 en route to 26 points. The match was Gillam's ninth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashton Soles, who posted ten points.

Calhoun Academy was led to victory by Chase Strickland and Nick Lindsay. Strickland went 7 of 13 on his way to 17 points along with eight rebounds and five steals, while Lindsay went 9 for 17 en route to 23 points in addition to seven boards and three steals. With that strong performance, Lindsay is now averaging an impressive 15.2 points per game. Will Strock also deserves some recognition as he scored his first points of the season.

Holly Hill Academy's loss dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Calhoun Academy, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-3.

Holly Hill Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 51-38 defeat against Jefferson Davis Academy on the 15th. Calhoun Academy has also already played their next contest, a 67-56 win against Patrick Henry Academy on the 14th.
