Basketball Recap: Aaron Vargas and Kree Wallace Secure Win for Las Animas

There's no place like home for Las Animas, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Saturday. They put the hurt on the South Baca [Campo/Vilas/Pritchett] Patriots with a sharp 66-41 victory on Tuesday. The match was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Trojans had established a 23 point advantage.

Leading Las Animas to victory were Kree Wallace and Aaron Vargas. Wallace went 6 of 8 on his way to 15 points and five steals, while Vargas went 5 for 10 on his way to 15 points and three steals. Vargas is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last five games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jesus Aguillar, who posted seven points and eight steals.

Las Animas was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

When it comes to explaining why South Baca [Campo/Vilas/Pritchett] lost, don't look at LJ Willis. Despite the final result, he put up 16 points. Jorey Billings was another key player, putting up six points.

Las Animas moved to 3-3 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for South Baca [Campo/Vilas/Pritchett], they dropped their record down to 1-3 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Las Animas will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Ellicott at 4:00 p.m. on January 11, 2025.
