The Porter Cowboys will take on the Pace Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Porter is coming into the game hot, having won their last five games.
Porter took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against Rivera, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Porter had just enough and edged out Rivera 3-2. While the Cowboys didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Mia Sosa spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on three hits and racked up 15 Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Miley Cortez was excellent, scoring a run and stealing Three bases. while going 1-for-2. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.2 stolen bases per game.
The home team had won the previous five meetings between Pace and Donna, and Pace kept the tradition alive. Pace's pitcher stepped up to hand Donna a 10-0 shutout on Tuesday. The contest marked the Vikings' most dominant win of the season so far.
Luna Juarez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Juarez was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two RBI.
In other batting news, Pace got a big performance out of Victoria Vasquez, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Megan Mares was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Pace always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .655. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March of 2024.
Porter pushed their record up to 6-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.3 runs over those games. As for Pace, the win got them back to even at 5-5.
Everything went Porter's way against Pace when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Porter made off with a 7-0 victory. Does Porter have another victory up their sleeve, or will Pace turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
