Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Ansonia

Ansonia won against Twin Valley South last Tuesday with 13 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Wednesday. The Tigers beat the Troy Christian Eagles by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 13-1. Considering the Tigers have won four contests by more than nine runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

The team relied heavily on Shyann McKenna, who fired off two home runs, three stolen bases, and five RBI while going 4-for-4. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kylie Caldwell, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Ansonia was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .483. They are 5-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The win was the third in a row for Ansonia, bringing their record up to 6-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Troy Christian, they are on a 13-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ansonia will square off against Tri-Village at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Patriots' pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so the Tigers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Troy Christian, they will take on Bethel at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Bees have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.22 runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of.
