With a playoff game on the line, the Tampa Bay Tech Titans rose to the challenge on Friday. They came out on top against Fletcher by a score of 51-34 (the very same score they lost by the week prior). This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
It was another big night for Rod Gainey jr, who rushed for 155 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries. Gainey jr was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 50 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Andreas Zayas, who rushed for 67 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Tampa Bay Tech's defensive line and their seven sacks. Fletcher's QB won't forget Tre?variez Jacobs anytime soon given Jacobs sacked him five times.
When it comes to explaining why Fletcher lost, one person who can't be blamed is Marcelis Tate. Despite the final result, he rushed for 130 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 carries, and also threw for 193 yards and three touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Troy Hillman, who picked up 101 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Tampa Bay Tech's victory bumped their record up to 9-2. As for Fletcher, their loss dropped their record down to 7-4.
Tampa Bay Tech will head out on the road to face off against Armwood at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Armwood is on a five-game streak of home wins, Tampa Bay Tech a five-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the field. Fletcher does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
