La Porte gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They managed a 35-31 victory over the Deer Park Deer. This was payback for the Bulldogs, who suffered a 25-22 loss the last time these two teams met.
La Porte found their leader in sophomore Sean Simon, who rushed for 283 yards while picking up 8.1 yards per carry. Simon showed off some serious burst, turning on the afterburners on one carry for 64 yards.
La Porte was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 413 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Deer Park only rushed for 164 rushing yards.
Despite the defeat, Deer Park saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Haden Lafrenz threw for 240 yards while picking up 12.0 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 80 yards on only nine carries. A healthy portion of Lafrenz's aerial production (86 yards to be exact) went to Arthur French.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. La Porte will face off against Kingwood at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Deer Park, they will take on The Woodlands at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
