Southwest is 0-10 against Cambridge since January of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Southwest Roughriders will face off against the Cambridge Trojans at 3:30 p.m. Southwest will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings (they are ranked 228th, while Cambridge is ranked 98th).
It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Southwest ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They snuck past Cheylin with a 53-48 win. The victory was just what Southwest needed coming off of a 59-39 defeat in their prior contest.
Southwest's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Houston Billeter led the charge by scoring 22 points. Another player making a difference was Nathan Rippe, who scored 11 points along with eight steals and five assists.
Cambridge posted their biggest victory yet this season on Friday. They breezed by Sutherland on the road to the tune of 61-17. With Cambridge ahead 44-9 at the half, the match was all but over already.
It was another big night for Brohdey Wood, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. He is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last six games he's played. Ben Hoberty was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five assists.
Southwest's victory ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-10. As for Cambridge, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-4.
Southwest came up short against Cambridge when the teams last played two weeks ago, falling 50-45. Can Southwest avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
