The Crest Lancers struggled with assists on Thursday (the Humboldt Cubs had ten more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Crest's tough 53-31 defeat to Humboldt might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Crest can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 146th, while Humboldt is ranked 34th).
Despite the loss, Crest still got an impressive performance from Ryan Golden, who scored nine points along with five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Rogan Weir, who scored four points.
Sam Hull was the offensive standout of the game as he scored 18 points along with four steals. The matchup was Hull's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Colden Cook, who scored seven points along with three steals.
This is the second loss in a row for Crest and nudges their season record down to 1-2. As for Humboldt, they pushed their record up to 3-0 with that win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Crest will take on Uniontown at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Humboldt, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on Erie at 8:30 p.m. on December 8th. Erie is coming into the match hot, having won their last three games.
