The Victory Christian Academy Storm will be taking part in a tournament against the Lake Region Thunder at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Victory Christian Academy saw some tournament action on Monday. They lost 22-11 to Lake Wales. The Storm have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Landon Cuzzone made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of JT Frew, who scored two runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Lake Region came tearing into Tuesday's match with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Highlanders 10-3. The game was the first time the Thunder have beaten the Highlanders on their field since April 21, 2022.
Kaeden Geraci made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with one double. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (three).
In other batting news, Jehiel Gomez was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with seven RBI and one double. Those seven RBI gave him a new career-high. Abraham Ponce also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Lake Region kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 6-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Victory Christian Academy's loss dropped their record down to 13-8. As for Lake Region, their record is now 12-9.
Wednesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Victory Christian Academy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .442. However, it's not like Lake Region struggles in that department as they've averaged .477. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Victory Christian Academy might still be hurting after the 14-4 defeat they got from Lake Region in their previous meeting back in March of 2019. Can the Storm avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
