Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Falkville ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 10-9 victory over Hanceville.
Briley Tomlin and Reed Dillard made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Tomlin struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off five hits. Meanwhile, Dillard tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. At bat, Tomlin got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and two RBI, while Dillard went 2-for-5 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Falkville let Bron Gandy and Eli Harris run wild. Gandy went 3-for-5 with three runs, one double, and one RBI, while Harris went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those three hits gave Gandy a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Logan Fowler, who went 2-for-5 with two runs and one triple.
Falkville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .303 or higher in three consecutive contests.
The win got Falkville back to even at 2-2. As for Danville, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.
Danville got the 'W' when the teams last played back in April of 2024 against Falkville by a conclusive 20-7 score. Do the Hawks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Blue Devils turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
