The Lake Placid Dragons are headed away from home for the first time to face off against the Okeechobee Brahmans at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Lake Placid is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.2 runs per game this season.
Lake Placid came out on top against Hardee on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run sixth inning. The Dragons put the hurt on the Wildcats with a sharp 14-3 win. The Dragons have beaten the Wildcats the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Wildcats has come to flipping the script.
Carson Carlini made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing six innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. Carlini was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That stolen base marked the first that she has snagged this season.
In other batting news, Taryn Smith was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those doubles were her first of the season. Savanna Barajas was another key player, going 4-for-5 with four RBI and one run.
Lake Placid always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .553. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Okeechobee, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They came out on top against Legacy by a score of 4-0 on Wednesday.
Not much got past Charisma Micco, who gave up just five hits to keep Legacy off the board. Micco has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Audra Friend, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Haylee Pendrey, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Okeechobee now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Lake Placid, their record is now 3-1.
