Hubbard is 0-7 against Marlin since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Hubbard Jaguars will finish 2023 at home by hosting the Marlin Bulldogs at 12:15 p.m. Hubbard will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 1317th, while Marlin is ranked 143rd).
Last Tuesday, Hubbard ended up a good deal behind Dawson and lost 38-23. Hubbard has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, Marlin came tearing into last Tuesday's contest with nine straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21.4 points) and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on Riesel with a sharp 57-37 victory. Considering Marlin has won six matchups by more than 19 points this season, last Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Hubbard's defeat dropped their record down to 4-10. As for Marlin, their win was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-1.
Hubbard was dealt a bruising 66-28 defeat at the hands of Marlin when the teams last played back in January. Can Hubbard avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
