The Golden Demons will head out on the road to square off against the Standley Lake Gators at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Golden pushed their score all the way to 65 on Monday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They received a tough blow as they fell 80-65 to Dakota Ridge. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Saturday (63), Golden still had to take the loss.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Alex Erger, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Another player making a difference was Leif Hansen, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Standley Lake's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They were outmatched by Green Mountain on the road and fell 78-44. Standley Lake has struggled against Green Mountain recently, as their matchup on Monday was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.
Like Golden, Standley Lake lost despite seeing results from several players. Asher Serlen led the charge by scoring 12 points along with five rebounds and two blocks. Serlen hasn't dropped below two blocks for nine straight games. Derrek Sims was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with five assists and two steals.
Golden's defeat dropped their record down to 14-8. As for Standley Lake, their loss dropped their record down to 13-9.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Golden have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 28 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Standley Lake struggles in that department as they've been averaging 24.3 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Golden lost to Standley Lake on the road by a decisive 61-46 margin in their previous meeting on Wednesday. Can Golden avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
