Stella Eichhorn put in work no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off eight hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
Eichhorn wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Sarah Vinson, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
The home team had won the previous two meetings between Thornwell and McCormick, and Thornwell kept the tradition alive. The Saints put the hurt on the Chiefs with a sharp 22-2 win on Tuesday. The Saints haven't had any issues with the Chiefs recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.
Thornwell got a massive performance out of Adrienne Anderson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. Those six RBI gave Anderson a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Karleigh Porter, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base.
Thornwell always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .971. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Thornwell pushed their record up to 8-6 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Ware Shoals, their loss dropped their record down to 7-6.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Ware Shoals hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .337. However, it's not like Thornwell struggles in that department as they've averaged .454. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Ware Shoals was able to grind out a solid win over Thornwell in their previous meeting two weeks ago, winning 6-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hornets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
