Baseball Recap: Estancia Wins Going Away Against Thoreau

Estancia won the last time they faced Thoreau and things went their way on Thursday too. The Bears were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Hawks. The result was nothing new for the Bears, who have now won five matches by ten runs or more so far this season.

Justin Rubio made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Joshua Villafuerte and Michael Anaya did most of the damage at the plate: Villafuerte got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and four runs, while Anaya went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Anaya is becoming a predictor of Estancia's success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is 2-1 (and 4-7 when he doesn't). Dominic Seecamp was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

Estancia always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .724. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Thoreau only posted an OBP of .364.

The win made it two in a row for Estancia and bumps their season record up to 6-8. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 5 runs in those games. As for Thoreau, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-14.

Estancia has already played their next game, an 11-5 defeat against Raton on the 25th. As for Thoreau, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Wingate at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bears have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.19 runs per game on average), something the Hawks will no doubt try to take advantage of.
