Marionville is 0-9 against Miller since February of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Marionville Comets will be playing at home against the Miller Cardinals at 6:30 p.m. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Marionville stacked a 15th blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They claimed a resounding 64-26 win over Lockwood at home. The win made it back-to-back wins for Marionville.
Marionville's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Lanie Stokes led the charge by scoring 18 points along with five assists and two steals. Dally Pomeroy was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Miller came tearing into Tuesday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 37.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They strolled past Stockton with points to spare, taking the game 50-31. Given Miller's advantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 118th, while Stockton is ranked 293rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Miller found their leader in underclassman Rachel Nunez, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds. Nunez has been hot recently, having posted ten or more rebounds the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Loghann Leivan, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.
Marionville is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season. As for Miller, they pushed their record up to 17-7 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home.
Tuesday's contest is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Marionville have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 39.2% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Miller struggles in that department as they've made 41.1% of their threes this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
