On Saturday, the Chambers Cougars faced the Cannon Cougars in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Chambers fell to Cannon 91-85. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game last Wednesday (70), Chambers still had to take the loss.
When it comes to explaining why Chambers lost, one person who can't be blamed is Maurio Hanson II. Despite the final result, he scored 25 points along with nine assists and two steals. Another player making a difference was Jordan Patton, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds.
Even though they lost, Chambers were working as a unit and finished the game with 27 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Chambers has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-6 record this season. As for Cannon, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 18-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Chambers will square off against West Charlotte at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully West Charlotte focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight last Saturday. As for Cannon, they will head out on the road to square off against Charlotte Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Charlotte Christian will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 329th, while Cannon is ranked sixth).
