The Palo Duro Dons''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They lost to Wylie on the road by a decisive 33-16 margin. While losing is never fun, Palo Duro can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 468th, while Wylie is ranked 182nd).
Despite the defeat, Palo Duro saw an underclassman step up: Darien Lewis rushed for 72 yards and a touchdown on only nine carries.
Bryant Meng was the offensive standout of the game as he threw for 198 yards and two touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Meng was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 51 yards.
Palo Duro now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Wylie, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-3.
Palo Duro will be playing in front of their home fans against Plainview on Friday. As for Wylie, they will head out on the road to face off against Cooper at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Cooper will be hoping to continue their four-game streak of scoring more points each matchup than the last.
