The Bridges Prep Buccaneers will venture away from home to take on the St. John's Islanders at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Bridges Prep is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.8 runs per game this season.
Bridges Prep is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Patrick Henry Academy just ended the team's 11-game winning streak on Friday. They fell 9-6 to the Patriots.
Bryce Young put in work while hitting and pitching. He pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Denver Jones and Tavin Almendarez did some serious damage despite the final result: Jones went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs, while Almendarez went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Academic Magnet hit St. John's with a four-run sixth inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Islanders came up short against the Raptors, falling 12-3. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Islanders, who until this matchup were averaging 3.91 runs allowed.
Antonio Hernandez made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and three RBI.
Bridges Prep's record now sits at 18-3. As for St. John's, their record is now 12-10.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Bridges Prep has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like St. John's struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Bridges Prep was able to grind out a solid victory over St. John's when the teams last played back in March, winning 6-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Buccaneers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
