The Weeki Wachee Hornets are taking a road trip to take on the Gulf Buccaneers at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Weeki Wachee barely beat Central the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Weeki Wachee was the clear victors by a 16-4 margin over Central on Tuesday. With that victory, the Hornets brought their scoring average up to 6.6 runs per game.
Alvalyn Crisp made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Crisp was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-5.
In other batting news, Lilly Connell was a standout: she scored three runs and stole Two bases. while going 3-for-3. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Austyn Childs, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run.
Weeki Wachee was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .553. They are 2-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Gulf). They never let Anclote get on the board and left with an 18-0 win on Thursday. The victory continues a trend for the Buccaneers in their matchups with the Sharks: they've now won nine in a row.
Jeovanna Carter was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.
In other batting news, Alana Delaney and Lillian Patrias did most of the damage at the plate: Delaney went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI, while Patrias scored three runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3. That home run was Delaney's first of the season. Julianna Carter was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one triple.
The win made it two in a row for Weeki Wachee and bumps their season record up to 3-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Gulf, their record now sits at 3-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Weeki Wachee has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Gulf struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Weeki Wachee's way against Gulf when the teams last played back in February of 2024, as Weeki Wachee made off with a 27-11 victory. Does Weeki Wachee have another victory up their sleeve, or will Gulf turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
