Yuma Catholic is 6-1 against Valley Christian since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Shamrocks will host the Trojans at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Yuma Catholic's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. Everything went their way against Odyssey Institute as they made off with a 17-0 victory. The win was familiar territory for the Shamrocks, who have now won five contests in a row.
The result came thanks to Cherish Trujillo's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Yuma Catholic got a massive performance out of Autumn Moffatt, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Faith Donley was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Yuma Catholic was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .606. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in five consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Valley Christian had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.9 runs) and they went ahead and made it eight on Thursday. They blew past the Bears 15-1.
Makay Fraley was incredible, firing off two home runs, six RBI, and four runs while going 4-for-4. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Corinne Rodgers, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
Valley Christian's victory was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 20-2-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Yuma Catholic, their victory bumped their record up to 19-4.
Monday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Yuma Catholic hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .419. However, it's not like Valley Christian struggles in that department as they've averaged .452. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
