Basketball Recap: Omar Chavez Key Part of a Team Effort in Tigers Win

San Fernando hadn't done well against Sylmar recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The San Fernando Tigers came out on top against the Sylmar Spartans by a score of 72-65. This was payback for the Tigers, who suffered an 89-48 defeat the last time these two teams met.

San Fernando's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Omar Chavez, who posted 31 points. The matchup was Chavez's eighth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Cabrera, who earned 20 points.

Despite the loss, Sylmar still got an impressive performance from Andrew Galvez, who went 9 for 21 on his way to 28 points and seven rebounds. Galvez is also crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Jordan Welton was another key player, putting up 11 points along with six boards and three steals.

The win made it two in a row for San Fernando and bumps their season record up to 3-5. As for Sylmar, they are on a four-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. San Fernando will welcome Arleta at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Arleta will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something San Fernando surely won't give up without a fight. As for Sylmar, they will host Eagle Rock at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
