Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school basketball. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2020-21 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence, in addition to local and state accolades.
Tamia Stricklin of
Seattle Prep (Seattle) is the 2020-21 MaxPreps Washington High School Basketball Player of the Year. The 5-foot-11 senior guard led the Panthers to a 13-0 record en route to their first Metro League title since 2001.
Stricklin averaged 19.5 points, 9.9 rebounds and 2.8 steals per game while shooting 47 percent from the field and 39 percent from beyond the arc.
The Evergreen State guard finished out her prep career strong with three double-doubles in the Metro League tournament. She posted 23 points and 16 rebounds against Eastside Catholic (Sammamish), went for 35 points and 18 rebounds against Garfield (Seattle) and finished with 29 points and 14 rebounds in the tournament championship game versus Bishop Blanchet (Seattle).
After eclipsing 1,000 points in her high school career, Sticklin will look to make an immediate impact at Fresno State next season.
