The Wellington Dukes have been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 31-30 to Keystone. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Wellington in their matchups with Keystone: they've now lost five in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Wellington lost, one person who can't be blamed is Brooke Lehmkuhl. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 18 points and 13 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Lehmkuhl has scored all season. Gabby Miller was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Keystone's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jessica Forthofer led the charge by scoring nine points along with 11 rebounds and three blocks. Forthofer has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Vivian Cassell, who scored four points along with 13 rebounds.
Wellington's loss dropped their record down to 8-4. As for Keystone, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 13-0.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wellington on the road again on Wednesday and play against Oberlin at 7:00 p.m. on January 17th. Oberlin is out to stop a eight-game streak of losses at home. As for Keystone, they will head out on the road to challenge Brookside at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Brookside is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
