Baseball Recap: Freeport Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Freeport, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They never let the West Florida Baptist Academy Conquerors get on the board and left with a 10-0 win on Thursday. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by eight runs or more this season.

Hagen Marse and Rem Sullivan made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Marse didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Sullivan tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those seven strikeouts gave Marse a new career-high. At bat, Marse scored a run while going 2-for-3, while Sullivan went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

In other batting news, Freeport let Carson Vogler and Braden Roberts run wild. Vogler scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3, while Roberts scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in both of his plate appearances. The dominant performance gave Roberts a new career-high in stolen bases. Wade Digges was another key player, scoring a run and stealing three bases.

Freeport always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .593. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Freeport pushed their record up to 5-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs over those games. As for West Florida Baptist Academy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Freeport will head out to take on Bozeman at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Freeport: 3.1, Bozeman: 2.3) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for West Florida Baptist Academy, they are taking a road trip to challenge Snook Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
