KB Perkins made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with four RBI and two doubles. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Jaxon Zickafoose was excellent, going 2-for-5 with two stolen bases and two runs. Another player making a difference was Caden Speakman, who went 3-for-4 with one double.
Meanwhile, Lynchburg-Clay's rock-solid pitcher showed up for the team's eighth consecutive shutout on Wednesday. They didn't even let Whiteoak on the board, marking the Mustangs' second-straight 6-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won 15 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Like Unioto, Lynchburg-Clay also got a great game from a two-way player: Cole Wells. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. Wells was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Braedon West, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Cody Bell was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Unioto's victory was their tenth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-6. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.9 runs over those games. As for Lynchburg-Clay, their victory bumped their record up to 17-2.
Unioto beat Lynchburg-Clay 5-1 when the teams last played back in April. Do the Shermans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mustangs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
