The Wharton Wildcats had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 29.3 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. They managed a 50-46 victory over Hillsborough. Given Wharton's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 81st, while Hillsborough is ranked 217th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Wharton's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tamara Bryant, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney Hurst, who scored 17 points along with three steals and two blocks.
Several Terriers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Deana Epps, who scored nine points along with six steals. Jojo Cruz-Smartt was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Wharton pushed their record up to 19-1 with that victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.8 points per game. As for Hillsborough, their loss dropped their record down to 10-7.
Wharton will be playing in front of their home fans against Bloomingdale at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Bloomingdale is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling. Hillsborough won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Leto at 6:30 p.m. on January 24th. Leto has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 8.
