Floyd County is 2-8 against Patrick County since March of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Buffaloes will welcome the Cougars at 5:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
On Thursday, Floyd County made easy work of Bassett and carried off a 16-2 win. The Buffaloes have beaten the Bengals the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Bengals has come to flipping the script.

Emma Biesterveld was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Ava DeJesus was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Lilly Gillispie was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, while Patrick County put up plenty of runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Radford. The Cougars were the clear victors by a 17-0 margin over the Bobcats. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cougars.
Like Floyd County, Patrick County also got a great game from a two-way player: Hayden Lawless. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Lawless was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Journey Moore was incredible, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Lauren Hazelwood, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Patrick County hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in five consecutive matchups.
Floyd County's victory bumped their record up to 9-3. As for Patrick County, their win bumped their record up to 12-3.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Floyd County hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .344. However, it's not like Patrick County struggles in that department as they've averaged .331. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Floyd County took their victory against Patrick County in their previous meeting last Wednesday by a conclusive 8-1 score. Will the Buffaloes repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
