The Doherty Spartans scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They strolled past Rampart with points to spare, taking the game 94-75. Given Doherty's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 34th, while Rampart is ranked 128th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Doherty got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was James Pulliam out in front who scored 30 points along with six rebounds and two blocks. That's the first time this season that Pulliam posted two or more blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Elijah Mack, who scored 21 points along with eight rebounds and four steals.
Rampart's loss came despite strong showings from Elias Bishop and Deangelo Smith. Bishop scored 21 points, while Smith scored 16 points. Bishop continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Myles Chavarria, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds.
Doherty is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. As for Rampart, their defeat was their tenth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 5-7.
Doherty the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Fountain-Fort Carson at 7:00 p.m. on January 24th. Rampart won't have much time to rest: their next game is against The Classical Academy at 7:00 p.m. on January 19th.
