The Monte Vista Pirates will be taking part in a tournament against the Rangely Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Monte Vista will come into the contest with an undefeated record on the line.
Monte Vista is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Colorado's top teams: Las Animas, who was ranked 12th at the time (Monte Vista was ranked 16th). The Pirates had just enough and edged out the Trojans 4-3 on Tuesday. The four-run effort marked the Pirates' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Landon Sanchez was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.
In other batting news, Judah Howe was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Howe is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season.
Meeker hit Rangely with a four-run fifth inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Panthers fell just short of the Cowboys by a score of 10-8. The loss continues a trend for the Panthers in their meetings with the Cowboys: they've now lost seven in a row.
Like Monte Vista, Rangely also got a great game from a two-way player: Bradley Lambros. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Lambros was even better at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one triple.
In other batting news, Landon Bollinger was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Monte Vista's record now sits at 6-0. As for Rangely, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-4.
Rangely's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Monte Vista has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 12.5 hits per game. It's a different story for Rangely, though, as they've been averaging 10.4 hits. Given Monte Vista's sizable advantage in that area, the Panthers will need to find a way to close that gap.
Monte Vista got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in April of 2025 against Rangely by a conclusive 17-1 score. Do the Pirates have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
