AAAAA Region 4A recap October 1, 2013
Rodney Smith of Mundy's Mill ran for the longest rushing play in AAAAA Region 4A this season against McIntosh last week. Smith ran for 80 yards on the play and finished with 166 on the day as his team fell to the Chiefs.
Drew scaled the state rankings by moving to 255 from 295 this week, the biggest jump in the league. Drew was able to move up by beating Starr's Mill 35-34.
Brandon Pearson threw for 277 yards and 3 touchdowns. He was 18-34 with 1 interception.
Smith was the best running back in the league this week. In 21 carries, he ran for 166 yards as Mundy's Mill beat the Panthers. Teammate Rodricous Gates added to the ground attack by rushing for 17 yards.
6-foot-0 quarterback Pearson of Drew is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1,082. He has also thrown 12 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Caleb Ham. The Union Grove star has 17 catches for 290 yards.
An important game coming up in AAAAA Region 4A this week will be when Forest Park takes on Drew. The Panthers are currently in third, while Drew is in second.
Drew and Starr's Mill played the most contested game in the league this week, with Drew eventually emerging with a 35-34 victory. Pearson in the win.
