The Liberty Patriots will head out on the road to square off against the Arbor View Aggies at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Liberty is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
Liberty is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: Bishop Gorman, who was ranked ninth at the time (Liberty was ranked fifth). Liberty walked away with a 4-1 win over Bishop Gorman on Tuesday. The Patriots haven't had any issues with the Gaels recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Charlotte Crittenden tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits over 4.2 innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-low in earned runs (zero).
At the plate, Liberty saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aniyah Dela Cruz, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Liberty hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most three strikeouts in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Arbor View was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-5 heartbreaker at the hands of Centennial. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Aggies have suffered since March 21, 2024.
Audrey Melton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and five unearned) runs on nine hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Malaya Tellis was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. Breya Hee also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Liberty's record now sits at 8-1-2. As for Arbor View, their loss dropped their record down to 6-5.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Liberty hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .344. However, it's not like Arbor View struggles in that department as they've averaged .328. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Liberty took their win against Arbor View when the teams last played back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 6-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Liberty since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
