Basketball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Ellwood City

Ellwood City had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 27.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They came out on top against the New Brighton Lions by a score of 74-66. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 68-54 back in December of 2024.

Ellwood City's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kaleb Servick, who went 10 of 15 en route to 21 points in addition to seven rebounds and five assists. The game was Servick's third in a row with at least ten points. Aaron Lake was another key player, dropping a double-double on 18 points and 12 boards.

Ellwood City has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy: their three-point shooting accuracy was 30.4% in those games and 17.5% outside of them. As for New Brighton, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 4-7.

Ellwood City and Carlynton will face off at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. As for New Brighton, a feisty cat fight is on tap when the New Brighton Lions challenge the Beaver Falls Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
