The South Park Burros''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 52-8 loss at the hands of Simla. While losing is never fun, South Park can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado football rankings (they are ranked 67th, while Simla is ranked fourth).
Gavin Street threw for 82 yards and a touchdown. Dyllan Newman was his top target, picking up 38 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Simla was led to victory by Caston Cox and TJ Eurich. Cox threw for 177 yards and four touchdowns while completing 77.8% of his passes, while Eurich gained 165 total yards and two touchdowns. Brent Bowker got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
The team's defense also helped out by holding South Park to a paltry 85 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Simla's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out three times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Treven Kocerha and his 2.5 sacks.
South Park's defeat was their sixth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 1-8. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 9.3 points per game. As for Simla, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 8-0.
South Park does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Simla will head out on the road to face off against St. Mary's at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully St. Mary's focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up four on Friday.
