The Sulphur Bluff Bears's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight loss. They were beaten by Saltillo 53-21. While losing is never fun, Sulphur Bluff can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1220th, while Saltillo is ranked 338th).
Sulphur Bluff lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Zaylee Peyton, who scored seven points along with nine rebounds and three steals. Peyton has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last five times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Emerson Fite, who scored eight points along with 11 rebounds.
Sulphur Bluff has been struggling recently, as they've lost eight of their last ten contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season. As for Saltillo, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 13-4.
Sulphur Bluff will be home for the holidays to greet Bloomburg at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Bloomburg has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Saltillo, they will head out on the road to face off against Campbell at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
