Valley Union gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Monday. They put the hurt on the Duncan Wildkats with a sharp 13-2 victory. The Blue Devils haven't had any issues with the Wildkats recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Dylan Mitchell made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. Mitchell was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing Three bases. while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
In other batting news, Valley Union got a massive performance out of Miles Richardson, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave Richardson a new career-high in RBI (two). Marshall Larson was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run.
Valley Union was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .440. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Duncan only posted a batting average of .188.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Valley Union will take on St. Johns in a tournament on Thursday. As for Duncan, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against San Carlos at 3:45 p.m.
