Mount Olive hasn't had much luck against Stringer recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Pirates will challenge the Red Devils at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
On Thursday, everything came up roses for Mount Olive against West Lincoln as the squad secured a 50-7 victory.
Mount Olive found their leader in freshman Skyelean Blackwell, who threw for 156 yards and three TDs while completing 87.5% of his passes, and also rushed for 79 yards and one score on only six carries.
Meanwhile, Stringer won against Lumberton last Friday with 46 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Thursday. The Red Devils simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Resurrection Catholic 46-7. The win was nothing new for the Red Devils as they're now sitting on four straight.
Mount Olive better keep an eye on Jaheim Campbell. He was instrumental in Stringer's win, rushing for 103 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Campbell also punched in two rushing touchdowns, which is notable because the Red Devils are undefeated when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 1-2 otherwise. Kyler Gavin was another key player, rushing for 64 yards and one score on only six carries.
Stringer was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 218 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 153 rushing yards in 19 consecutive games dating back to last season.
Stringer's record is now 8-2. As for Mount Olive, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-8.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Mount Olive has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 153.9 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Stringer struggles in that department as they've been averaging 315.5 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Mount Olive came up short against Stringer in their previous matchup back in September, falling 34-22. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Campbell, who rushed for 360 yards and five TDs while picking up 8.6 yards per carry. Now that the Pirates know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
