Basketball Recap: Jakoby Taylor's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Bridgeport over Glenn

Bridgeport lost against Glenn back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Bridgeport Bearcats took a 54-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Glenn Bobcats. While losing is never fun, the Bearcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 481st, while the Bobcats are ranked 41st).

Several Bearcats players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jakoby Taylor, who went 5-for-11 to rack up 10 points. The dominant performance gave Taylor a new career-high in points. Darries Steward also deserves some recognition as he pulled down his first rebound of the season.

Even though they lost, Bridgeport was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Glenn only posted seven assists.

Among those leading the charge was Sean Wesolek, who went 6-for-11 en route to 16 points and five boards. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Meech Ward, who posted 11 points and five rebounds.

This is the second loss in a row for Bridgeport and nudges their season record down to 4-16. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.5 points over those games. As for Glenn, their victory was their tenth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-2.

Coming up, Bridgeport will face off against Chesaning at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Chesaning knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven contests -- so hopefully Bridgeport likes a good challenge. As for Glenn, they will challenge Dow at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
