The Gregory School Hawks's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 60-31 loss at the hands of St. Augustine Catholic. The Gregory School was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 29-8.
Despite the defeat, The Gregory School saw an underclassman step up: Zena Smith dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Rose Pisetsky, who scored ten points along with six rebounds.
St. Augustine Catholic got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Megan Callahan out in front who scored 17 points along with three steals. Carolina Georgelous was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds.
The Gregory School's loss was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 4-11. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 23.7 points per game. As for St. Augustine Catholic, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 9-5.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. The Gregory School won't have much time to rest: their next match is against San Simon at 2:30 p.m. on January 13th. San Simon comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 24 points in their last five games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. As for St. Augustine Catholic, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Chandler Prep at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
