Baseball Game Preview: Reed Raiders vs. Bishop Manogue Miners

The Reed Raiders will head out to challenge the Bishop Manogue Miners at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Reed took a eight-run defeat the last time they faced off against Galena, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Raiders narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Grizzlies 8-6. The win was some much needed relief for the Raiders as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Reed got a great performance from Ryan Vanek as he struck out ten batters over 6.1 innings while giving up five earned runs off six hits. That's the most strikeouts Vanek has posted since back in March.

At the plate, Tai Chang was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Goddard, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Bishop Manogue had already won ten in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.1 runs) and they went ahead and made it 11 on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 9-2 victory. The Miners might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 contests by six runs or more this season.

Bishop Manogue's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 20-4. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.2 runs over those games. As for Reed, their record is now 11-12.

Reed might still be hurting after the 12-5 loss they got from Bishop Manogue when the teams last played back in March. Can the Raiders avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
