I Sunset - Northwest recap October 8, 2013
Sierra Vista lost to Desert Oasis 49-12 last week, the largest margin of any game. Octavious Payne was a bright spot for the Mountain Lions, as he caught 1 pass for 64 yards in the defeat.
Palo Verde made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 1,762 from 1,980. The advance stemmed from a 22-13 victory over Centennial last week.
Sierra Vista's dynamic duo of Randal Grimes and Payne proved tough for the Diamondbacks to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Grimes threw for 75 yards and Payne had 64 yards receiving.
Calvin Beaulieu provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Panthers bested the Bulldogs. Beaulieu's favorite target this week was Jake Ortale, who caught 3 passes for 41 yards.
5-foot-9 quarterback Dustin Puia of Shadow Ridge is the league leader in passing yards this season with 527. He has also thrown 5 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Ortale. The Palo Verde star has 15 catches for 341 yards.
