After both having extra time off, the Lighthouse Private Christian Academy Stingrays and the Pine Forest Eagles will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field one another at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The timing isn't great for Lighthouse Private Christian Academy: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Pine Forest has snatched up three consecutive wins on the road.
Lighthouse Private Christian Academy fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Pensacola last Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 9-8.
Fianna K put in work while hitting and pitching. She struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up eight earned runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). K was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That home run was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Kilee M was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring three runs and stealing Four bases. while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.2 stolen bases per game. Another player making a difference was Hannah G, who scored a run and stole Three bases. while going 1-for-3.
While Pine Forest didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-10), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They blew past Pensacola 17-7 last Tuesday. Considering the Eagles have won six matches by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Jayonna Hillman spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and six unearned) runs on seven hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ranya Preyer, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Mary Brockett, who scored a run.
Lighthouse Private Christian Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 2-8. As for Pine Forest, their victory bumped their record up to 6-2.
