Las Plumas is 0-7 against Orland since October of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Las Plumas Thunderbirds will look to defend their home field against the Orland Trojans at 7:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Friday, everything went Las Plumas' way against Corning as Las Plumas made off with a 41-21 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Las Plumas.
Las Plumas' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Drake Sahagun, who threw for 126 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 passes. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryan Houghton, who picked up 101 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Orland had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 45.5 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They claimed a resounding 42-6 win over Paradise on the road. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 20-0.
Jaime Albarran continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 185 yards and three touchdowns on only six carries. Albarran's longest rush was for an incredible 70 yards. Colby Stoltenberg also deserves a mention for his punt return touchdown.
Their wins bumped Las Plumas to 4-3 and Orland to 5-1.
We should be in store for an exciting game Friday as the two teams have no problem gaining yardage. Las Plumas has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 366.1 total yards per game. However, it's not like Orland struggles in that department as they've been even better at 393.3 per game. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them.
Las Plumas took a serious blow against Orland when the teams last played back in October of 2022, falling 49-21. Thankfully for Las Plumas, Grant Foster (who rushed for 173 yards and three touchdowns) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
