David Hernandez made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases and two runs.
In other pitching news, Eagle Pass got a great performance from Aquiles Garcia as he tossed 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Garcia has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
Back at the plate, Isaac Guerrero was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.
Meanwhile, Wimberley didn't have quite enough to beat Boerne-Champion on Thursday and fell 7-6. The Texans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Wimberley saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jayden Hall, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Sage Hall was another, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one run and one RBI.
Eagle Pass pushed their record up to 6-2 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 3.5 runs across that stretch. As for Wimberley, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-4.
Eagle Pass' speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's game. The Eagles have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Wimberley, though, as they've been averaging only 0.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Eagle Pass continue to outrun the ball?
