Tradition Prep waltzed into their game on Monday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Cardinal Newman Crusaders 72-69. While the Pirates didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Tradition Prep to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ethan Chevres, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Syncere Cannon, who went 8 of 14 on his way to 19 points.
Tradition Prep has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.3 points per game. As for Cardinal Newman, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 6-7 record.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Tradition Prep will take on Odyssey Charter School at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Tradition Prep knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight contests -- so hopefully Odyssey Charter School likes a good challenge. As for Cardinal Newman, they will square off against Oxbridge Academy at 6:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
