South Lenoir and Richlands are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2016, but likely not for long. The Blue Devils will be playing at home against the Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. South Lenoir is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
South Lenoir took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Clinton as they made off with an 11-2 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Blue Devils considering their one-run performance the matchup before.
South Lenoir let Lily Cole and Carley Boone run wild. Cole went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Boone went 2-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. That double was Boone's first of the season. Makenzie Herring was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
South Lenoir hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.
White Oak hit Richlands with a five-run seventh inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Wildcats lost 14-5 to the Vikings.
Richlands saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kenly Harris, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Another was Kayleigh Lawson, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
South Lenoir pushed their record up to 5-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Richlands, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-9.
South Lenoir's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's contest. The Blue Devils have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Richlands, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will South Lenoir continue to outrun the ball?
South Lenoir got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in February against Richlands by a conclusive 12-2 score. Will the Blue Devils repeat their success, or do the Wildcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
